Nature of request
John Lotewych states that when Richard de Cleet, bailiff of Hugh le Despenser the father in Berkshire, brought a writ of conspiracy against him - illegally - which was sent to the sheriff, he returned it privately, at Richard's request, and in return for payment, stating that John had nothing in his bailiwick by which he could be distrained, nor could he be found: deceiving the court, as he could be distrained. He requests a remedy.

Note
According to the List of Sheriffs, Drew de Barantyn was sheriff of Oxfordshire and Berkshire between 20 May 1322 and 8 February 1327. This petition suggests that he is the current sheriff, and must have been submitted just before he left office. A note on the guard of the petition says 'c. 1326-7, ref. List of Sheriffs'.
