Nature of request
William de Stotton, parson of the church of East Shefford states that Richard le Cleet, Hugh le Despenser's bailiff in Berkshire, threatened him with depriving him of his church, making accusations concerning a woman, if he would not do as he wished. Thus they arranged a love-day between them, on which day Richard took him to Hidden wood and there, by means of a number of men of his bailiwick hidden in the wood, he made him make fine with him in 100 marks, of which he has paid 20 li. He requests a remedy.
