Nature of request
John de Brigges and Alice his wife state that Richard atte Knolle of Bagshot gave the manor of Bagshot with its appurtenances to William de Keynes and the aforesaid Alice, Richard's daughter, and their heirs, Hugh le Despenser, formerly Earl of Winchester made an arrangement with Richard's son Thomas atte Knolle that he would support him in exchange for all his right. He then held an inquisition with his own tenants, which found that Thomas was Richard's son, without examining the alienation made by Richard to William and Alice: thus he entered the manor, and has held it for ten years, and John and Alice have not been able to have justice because of his power. They request grace and a remedy, and that the truth of this might be enquired into.
