Nature of request
John de Grei states that the abbey of St James, Northampton, was of the foundation of a William Peverel, his ancestor, and that he and his heirs have had the advowson of the abbey from time immemorial, until the time of Isabel, daughter and heir of William de Duston, his great-grandmother; when, during her minority in Henry III's wardship, the king had the advowson after the death of Abbot Adam Grilli. This has continued since then, wrongly, and so he requests justice and a remedy.
