Description

Name(s)
Pirot, Simon
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Simon Pirot states that his father, Ralph Pirot gave him the manor of Lindsell in Essex, held of the king in chief, for the term of his life, but that another Ralph Pirot, claiming to be the heir, disseised him, in conspiracy with John de Lachele, to whom he alienated the manor, although he was under age. Simon brought a writ of novel disseisin, and they came to an agreement that Simon would have the manor back for the term of his life, and of that of his wife Jacquemine, who is still a tenant. Ralph died, and John de Lachele alienated the reversion to Hugh le Despenser the son, by fine levied - although Simon challenged this - and Hugh granted the reversion to Bartholomew de Badlesmere. After his death, the king entered and granted it back to Hugh. Simon has never dared to sue for fear of Hugh; he now requests a remedy.
