Description
Petitioners
Joan Toulouse, widow of John son of John Toulouse.
Name(s)
Toulouse, Joan
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Joan, the widow of John son of John Toulouse states that her late husband held two messuages with appurtenances in London jointly with her, to them and to the heirs of their bodies, and that he was convicted of felony as a clerk before the justices of gaol delivery at Newgate, and sent to the bishop of London's prison. The king seized the messuages into his hand, and has taken the issues, but John has now died of natural causes in prison: as the bishop has certified in Chancery on the king's orders. She requests that the messuages be restored to her, as she has nothing else on which to live.
Nature of endorsement
When the king is duly informed of the death of John son of John, and that Joan holds jointly in tail, as the petition implies, she is to have restitution of the said messuages according to its tenor.
