Description

Name(s)
William (Fitz William), William
Addressees
King and council
Nature of request
William, son of William, son of Adam le Clerk of Staneford states that his grandfather, Adam, gave his sister Mabel and the heirs of her body a bovate of land with appurtenances in Staneford, for 12 d. annually, payable at two terms. Mabel died seised, without an heir of her body, whereupon Robert Steer of Loughborough intruded himself and sold the tenements to Hugh le Despenser the elder. By his forfeiture they are now in the king's hand, and William requests grace and a remedy, as it can be clearly seen from the charter that the reversion is to him.
Nature of endorsement
Hugh le Despenser's muniments etc. are to be searched, to see if anything can be found on behalf of the king which might bar etc., and if nothing can be found for the king, then he will ordain a remedy.
