Date
[c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
Andrew de Roldeston (Rolleston), son of Robert de Rolleston.
Name(s)
de Roldeston (Rolleston), Andrew
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Andrew, son of Robert de Roldeston complains of a conspiracy between Thomas de Radclif sur Sore, formerly undersheriff of Nottinghamshire, Adam de Cradle, and Adam le Westrun to deprive him of a messuage, 40 acres of land and 10 acres of meadow, with appurtenances, in Rolleston, which Thomas held on lease from Andrew's father. At Newark, on the Monday following the translation of St Thomas, in the fourth year of the present king's reign, they acquired a writ of Chancery in Andrew's name to give these lands to Thomas, without his knowledge, had an attorney accepted for Andrew, and continued the process, until the inquest was held at Newark on the Monday following the feast of the Annunciation, where it was presented that the tenements are held of Robert de Roldeston in fee simple, whereas they are entailed on Robert and Beatrice his wife, and on the heirs of their bodies. The conspirators were indicted before Richard de Grey and his companions at Nottingham, but because the plea in the King's Bench is of record, and so cannot be reversed by such justices, Andrew has been adjourned to parliament. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
This petition is to be sent to Chancery and the Chancellor is to have come before him the tenor of the record and process held before the justices of King's Bench, and also the tenor of the indictment; and when he has called the justices and others of the council, they are further to do right and justice.
Places mentioned
Rolleston, [Nottinghamshire]

Note
CPR 1330-1334 p.133 is dated at Windsor, 18 February 1331, p.139 is dated at Wingham, 23 April 1331. The petition must postdate this, allowing the justices time to sit and to indict the conspirators, but probably does not postdate it by much.
