Nature of request
Geoffrey Dapetot states that after the death of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster (called 'St Thomas of Lancaster' here), Hugh le Despenser the son had him attached and held in a harsh prison at Gloucester, because he was of the Earl of Lancaster's party, in the company of Lord de Mortimer and the Earl of Hereford, and would not release him until he had granted him his manor of Redmarley D'Abitot, receiving nothing for it; and that when the king and his mother came, John de Sapy obtained that manor as a gift on false information, and still holds it, wrongly, and contrary to the statute made at Westminster on behalf of those harmed and disinherited in that quarrel. He requests that the process, now in Chancery, be examined, and justice done.
