Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/17/816
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Apperleye (Apperley).
Name(s)
de Apperleye (Apperley), Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Richard de Apperleye states that he sold his manor of Colverden to Henry de Willington for a certain sum paid beforehand, and for a lined robe suitable for a squire, to be received annually for the term of his life, for which he can distrain if it should fall into arrears: for which he has Henry's deed. The manor has been in the king's hand since Henry was hanged and drawn at Bristol, and Richard's robes have been in arrears for five years. He requests his robe, together with the arrears, and states that he is ready to show his deed for it.
Nature of endorsement
Because Henry's heir will be restored, he is to sue at law against him.
Places mentioned
Colverden (Coverdine), [Gloucestershire]
Bristol, [Gloucestershire].
People mentioned
Henry de Wilington (Willington).
Note
Dated 'c. 1327' on the guard, with reference to the Fine Roll entries. CPR 1321-1324 p. 148 (dated March 26 1322) is a commission to render judgment on Henry de Montfort and Henry de Willington at Bristol: so, if the robe has been in arrears for five years, this date would be about right.
