Description

King and council.
Nature of request
The community of Northamptonshire state that in the twenty-fifth year of the king's reign, at his parliament at Westminster, he granted excesses, fines, issues, redemptions and amercements on servants, labourers, craftsmen and victuallers to the community of the realm in aid of the tenth and fifteenth that he granted in that parliament, to be levied by the collectors of tenths and fifteenths in the twenty-sixth, twenty-seventh and twenty-eighth years, so that, after the tenth and fifteenth had been collected, the money not levied or distributed would belong to him; however, the collectors made an error in their account, and did not account specially for this money, but included it with the rest, so that a process has been instituted in the Exchequer against the collectors, and their heirs, terre-tenants and executors, to account and make satisfaction for this money, which is presumed not to have been levied. They request that the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer be ordered to inquire into this, and, if it is found to be true, that they cease demanding this money, and hold the collectors and their heirs, terre-tenants and executors quit.
