Reference
SC 8/17/801
Date
[c. 1327-c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
Citizens of York.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The citizens of York state that King Edward, the king's father, owed them £30, as can be seen from a bill of the wardrobe, a copy of which they enclose. They request that this sum be allowed in their annual farm for their city, receiving the bill from them, and charging those who should be charged with it.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have examined the bill, if they find that the debt is due, they are to make an allowance for it in their next farm, receiving etc. and charging etc.
Places mentioned
Everwyk (York).
People mentioned
Edward [II], King of England, father of the present king
Note
Dated 'c. 1327' on guard of petition - and it would seem from the contents that it is most likely to belong to the early years of Edward III's reign. The bill (SC 8/16/800) is dated 22 May 17 Edward II (1324). It is dated here c. 1327-1331 as the wording of the response (and perhaps also the hand) is similar to that to SC 8/17/802, 803, 804, 806 etc., they might all belong to the same year
