Nature of request
Thomas de Lovayn states that he holds the manor of Easton of the king in chief, paying 10 li. annually to Windsor Castle, and the manor of Bildeston for a knight's fee only, and that the Barons of the Exchequer wish to levy £40 from him for his scutage for Wales in the fifth and tenth years, although it can be seen from the Roll of Marshalcy that his father Matthew de Lovayn, did this service, and that he held by homage and nothing more, and Thomas has done homage. Therefore he asks to be quit of this money.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons etc. are to be ordered by writ that, when they have examined the Domesday Book, and the Roll of the Marshalcy, and other remembrances of the Exchequer, they are to inform themselves about his tenancy, and do justice.
