Description
Petitioners
William de Meneria, prior of Tickford.
Name(s)
de Meneria, William
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
prior of Tickford
Nature of request
The Prior of Tickford states that although King Edward, father of the present king, confirmed by his charter all the lands, tenements, possessions and churches which they had of the gift of their founder and other feoffors, the words 'in pure and perpetual alms' are, through negligence, not included in this confirmation, although they are in their original charters. They request confirmation of the charters according to their original purport.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio. The council does not give its consent to this being done.
Places mentioned
Tickford, [Buckinghamshire].
People mentioned
Edward [II], King of England.
Note
Dated in a note on the guard to 'c. 1327, ref. charters confirmed by Edward, king's father': and both from the hand, and from the probability that the first years of a new reign would be a likely time for a prior to try to get the defective confirmation of a previous king corrected, it is likely to be from the first few years of Edward III.
