Nature of request
William de Elsyng states that with the king's permission he has founded a hospital in Aldermanbury outside Cripplegate for a hundred blind men, and has spent a great deal of his money in doing so: he requests that the king allow the warden of the hospital to purchase 40 li. of land or rent, in aid of their sustenance.
Nature of endorsement
It seems to the council, if it please the king, that it would be alms to grant him permission to purchase £10 of land, not held of the king in chief.It pleases the king.

CPR 1330-4 p.197 is dated at Windsor, 26 October 1331. Rot. Parl. vol. II, p.401a, no. 125 in a note states that the hospital was founded in 1329.
