Nature of request
Joan, daughter of William de Staveley, states that she brought an assise of novel disseisin before William de Herle and his companions at York, against Thomas de Fetherstanehalgh and Alexander his brother, concerning a free tenement in Sedbergh in Lonsdale, but that this assize has been pending from the quindene of Easter until the octaves of Michaelmas last, because the brothers produced a charter of the king's father, which included a reversion to the present king. Because the reversion touches the king, the justices have stayed proceedings, and she requests that the king order them to hold the assize.
Nature of endorsement
The justices are to be ordered etc. to continue to the final determination of the matter, notwithstanding etc., but that they do not pronounce judgment without advising the king.

On the reverse of the petition a modern hand has written '1327-9 or 1331-5' with reference to William de Herle and his companions. On the evidence of the Close Rolls, both Fetherstanehalgh brothers are active during this period.
