Reference
SC 8/16/751
Date
[1353-1373]
Description
Petitioners
Commons of the counties of Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire, and parts of Suffolk, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Leicestershire.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioners complain that they suffer great hardships because there is no staple of wools and woolfells closer to them than Norwich or Boston, both of which are very distant, and request that one be established at King's Lynn.
Nature of endorsement
It is to be so until it is ordained otherwise.
Places mentioned
Huntingdonshire
Cambridgeshire
Suffolk
Northamptonshire
Bedfordshire
Leicestershire
Norwich, [Norfolk]
La Ville de Seint Botolf (Boston), [Lincolnshire]
Lenn (King's Lynn), [Norfolk].
Note
Dated in a note on the guard to 1353-1373, these being the original date of the establishment of domestic staples (1353) and the date when King's Lynn was given its own staple (1373). On balance it seems most likely that the petition may relate to the more closely to the latter.
