Description
Petitioners
John de Wroxhale (Wroxall), knight.
Name(s)
de Wroxhale (Wroxall), John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Wroxhale states that he was forced by duress and to save his life to make a recognizance to Despenser in £100 after his exile. Wroxhale has continually sued since the first parliament of Edward III to have this recognizance annulled according to the statute, and is still pursuing this. Nonetheless he is still destrained by a summons of the Exchequer for the £100 so that he requests that a remedy be made for him so that he is not wrongly charged.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ in Chancery according to the form of the statute, and when the chancellor has been informed that Wroxhale is pursuing before the justices of the king by writ to them upon this ordered, then a writ of Chancery is ordered to the treasurer and barons that they surcease their demand pending his suit.
People mentioned
Hugh le Despenser, [Earl of Winchester], the father.
Note
Firmly dated to 1333 as the petition was answered in full with a pardon of the sum because it had been extracted under duress (CPR 1330-4, p.459).
