Nature of request
The prior and convent state that they were granted the vill of Chesterton by King John to hold at fee farm, and had the king's warren there from the time of the gift until Despenser procured that the king put in a warrener, who received until now two pence a day when the warren was only worth 12d. per annum, so that the prior is ousted. They request that the king order that the prior is able to have the warren as his predecessors had it before they were ousted.
Nature of endorsement
Let certain people be assigned to enquire etc. in the presence etc. of what time the prior was seised of the warren, and when he was ousted, and the cause, and the records of the last one or two eyres be searched if necessary, and the inquisition returned, and the court certified so that justice can be done.

The petition dates to 1331 as it appears to be contemporary with a similar petition by the prior, both of which petitions generated an inquisition of 1331 (C 81/214, no. 13).
