Reference
SC 8/15/726
Date
[c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
Henry de Trulo.
Name(s)
de Trulo, Henry
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Trulo shows that he had the manor of Pleshey for the term of five years by a lease of Paunce de Contron, which manor was late Bartholomew de Badlesmere's, and it was granted to Contron for his life together with other manors of the gift of the king for £100 per annum. Lady Badlesmere came and ejected Contron and Trulo from their terms and the manor, and detained Trulo's goods and chattels in the manor. He requests remedy, and that restitution be made to him of his goods and chattels.
Nature of endorsement
At the common law.
Places mentioned
Pleshey, [Essex].
People mentioned
Paunce de Contron
Bartholomew de Badlesmere
[Margaret], Lady Badlesmere.
Note
This petition is difficult to date. Contron was granted the lands in July 1322 (CFR 1319-27, p.137). The lease quite probably followed quickly for Contron, styled as clerk and the king's doctor in the fine rolls, was unlikely to want to personally administer an estate that he had from a forfeiture, and only for life. However, unless Lady Badlesmere recovered this manor as dower, it seems more likely that Trulo was ejected on the restoration of the Badlesmere family under the Mortimer regime, so a date of c. 1327 seems reasonable.
