Reference
SC 8/15/724
Date
[1331]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Lunguillers (Lungvilers), Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
Name(s)
de Lunguillers (Lungvilers), Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire
Nature of request
Lunguillers, late sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire shows that sheriffs of the counties render a farm at the Exchequer, and they ought to have all the profits. The king has granted the liberties of Tickhill and High Peak to Queen Isabella and afterwards to Queen Philippa. When Lunguillers rendered his account he was charged for the entire amount of the profits without regard for the liberties from which he takes no profits. He requests that he is able to have allowance.
Nature of endorsement
Let the petition be sent to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer, that when they have viewed the petition, they are to do what is to be done at their discretion.
Places mentioned
Nottinghamshire
Derbyshire
Tickhill, [West Riding of Yorkshire]
High Peak, [Derbyshire].
People mentioned
Isabella of France, Queen of England
Philippa of Hainault, Queen of England.
Note
Lunguillers served as sheriff from 1328-9, though his reference to the two honours becoming part of the dower of Queen Philippa must mean that this dates to 1331 when the honours were granted to her as dower (CPR 1330-4, pp.34 and 55).
