Nature of request
Beauchamp shows that he and his ancestors have a custom pertaining to their manor of Sheppeton of taking a penny from each boat passing up the Thames for walking on his land, from boats of the king and of others. Now some men, farmers of the boat of the king have come and by their office take by force these customs to his great damage and disinheritance. He requests remedy.

He should take a pledge from the merchandises that are in the boats.
