Nature of request
The sheriffs show that they are charged by their office to pay to the king the farm of the city, and the farm of Queenhithe as well as finding other costs and taxes, to make which payments they have nothing certain except pleas and purchases and certain customs to be taken from merchandise coming in and out of the city. Because of the recent troubles merchants have not come to the city so that they have little to aid them in the payment of the farms. They requests that the king ordain that they be able to have some pardon and release of the farm of the city.1)

Probably dating to 1327, as the term of these two sheriffs was 1326-7, and they are presumably asking for relief of some of the burden that that remained with them as they neared the end of their term.
