Reference
SC 8/14/679
Date
[? 1327-? 1329]
Description
Petitioners
Robert Fitz Walter of Woodham.
Name(s)
Fitz Walter, Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Fitz Walter shows that he held the manor of Woodham Walter and other manors in chief of the king by barony. Gloucester held the manor of Bloomsbury from the barony in chief from Fitz Walter's father until the escheator seized the lordship of it for which Fitz Walter requests remedy.
Nature of endorsement
He should take action against his tenant by distress, and by the law.
Places mentioned
Woodham Walter, [Essex]
Bloomsbury, [Middlesex].
People mentioned
Robert Fitz Walter of Woodham, father of the petitioner
William Belet
Richard de Gloucestre (Gloucester), burgess of London.
Note
This is difficult to date. A Robert Fitz Walter was a minor and in the custody of the king in March 1329, and as late as 1333 in various entries in the patent and close rolls. Whether this is the petitioner, and the petition dates to after he came of age, or it is the son of the petitioner is not clear. If the latter, this petition cannot date to any later than 1329, and no earlier than 1327.
