Description
Petitioners
John le Neve of Brent Eleigh.
Name(s)
Neve, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Le Neve complains that Denarston with many of his adherents came to his house in Eleigh and a farm granted him by the King in Milden on Monday in the feast of St Michael in his twentieth year, took his goods and chattels, drove away his livestock, broke into his house and abused his wife wrongfully and against the peace. He requests that amends be made so that he is not ruined.
Nature of endorsement
He should sue at common law.
Places mentioned
Illegh Aars (Brent Eleigh), Suffolk
Meldyngge (Milden), Suffolk.
People mentioned
Peter de Denarston
Emma [le Neve], wife of the petitioner.
Note
The petition makes mention that the assault occurred on 29 September 1326, so that the petition has to be a relatively short time after this. As Denarston made a similar complaint against le Neve which resulted in a commission of oyer and terminer being issued on 4 March 1327 (CPR 1327-30, p.73), it perhaps falls late in 1326 and early 1327, perhaps in the first parliament of Edward III.
