Mayor and commonalty of the city of Chichester.

Nature of request
The petitioners show that they and their predecessors in the time of the king's progenitors when impleaded for their free tenements were not accustomed to appear before justices of assizes of oyer and terminer and other inquisitions unless taken in the city. Now they are forced by the king and his justices and ministers by distress and amercements to appear with the other people of the county to their great damage, by which many leave the city.
