Name(s)
de Tilneye (Tilney), James

servant of Robert Ufford, Earl of Suffolk
Nature of request
Tilneye shows that he was servant of the earl of Suffolk in Boston and he was taken and imprisoned in the Tower of London for an affray in Boston, though he was not found culpable for anything only by malicious accusation. He was released by a mainprise under which he still lives. He requests that at the request of the earl he be discharged from prison and the mainprise.

Seint Botolph, (Boston), [Lincolnshire]
London.
People mentioned

Lord Tateshale (Tatteshale).
Note
This is dated to 1348 by the details given in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.175; see also PROME, parliament of January-February 1348, appendix, no. 52. If this was the insurrection that a commission of oyer and terminer was issued for in July 1347, then the identification of this petition with the Rot. Parl. date seems acceptable.
