Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/13/631
Date
[1348]
Description
Petitioners
Nicholas de Plecy (Plessy), son and heir of Edmund de Plecy, knight.
Name(s)
de Plecy (Plessy), Nicholas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Plecy shows that his father was wrongfully ousted from certain lands and tenements parcels of the manor of Barnsley by Despenser who claimed that he was of the party of Thomas, earl of Lancaster. After Despenser's fall the lands came into the king's hand, and he granted them to the earl of Kent. Plecy's father began suing for the return of the land but the suit terminated on his death, and Plecy was a minor. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
He is to explain more fully the points contained within his petition.
Places mentioned
Bardesle (Barnsley), [Gloucestershire].
People mentioned
Edmund de Plecy (Plessy), knight, father of the petitioner
Hugh le Despenser, Earl of Winchester
Thomas [of Lancaster], Earl of Lancaster
Edmund of Woodstock, Earl of Kent.
Note
The petition is dated to 1348 by the details given in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.175; see also PROME, parliament of January-February 1348, appendix, no. 53. Plecy had come of age some time before, in 1339 (CCR 1339-41, p.31), and the note on the guard suggests this as a date for the petition.
