Nature of request
The people show that by diverse inundations and damage wrought by the river Humber reaching to the vill, and happening daily they are so impoverished that they cannot maintain the defences and pay their taxes. It was ordained with the assent of parliament, 18 Edward III, that the mischiefs should be enquired of, and the inquest returned into Chancery, by which inquest it was found that this had happened. The people request that they have letters patent that they are taxed according to the new assessment.
