Description
Petitioners
Richard de Playz (Plays), son of Richard de Plays.
Name(s)
de Playz (Plays), Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Playz shows that his kinsman Ralph came into the wardship of Edward I by his minority, and the king leased the manors to Queen Eleanor until he came of age. However he died and the lands came to Giles his brother, and during his minority Queen Eleanor leased them to Christine de Marish, so that when he proved his age some of the manors were in her seisin. Both Giles and his son Richard sued by petition and by writ to no avail, and in the meantime Marish died so that the lands came into the hand of Edward I. Finally in response to further petitions Edward III in his first year ordered by his writ that the matter be enquired into, but Richard, the petitioner's father died before the writ could be executed, so that he requests remedy that he make and clarify his right which was begun before.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is alleged by this petition that the process had begun concerning the manors and continued in the time of the king's progenitors as well as during his own time, and the process was discontinued by the death of one or other of the parties, this business is to be shown to the king so he might speak his will on it.
