Nature of request
Copy of letter from the abbot to Edward III, reciting letters of Edward III concerning a contribution towards the marriage of Eleanor, the king's sister to the count of Guelders, to which the abbot declined to contribute, for reasons which the king thought inadequate, and requesting him to respond more favourably. The abbot declines again to make a contribution because the house is impoverished and oppressed by many problems.

The letter is dated to 1348 with SC 8/13/620, the petition with which it was formerly enclosed. The letter itself is dated to 1333 by the two dating clauses. The aid in question was that taken by Edward III for the marriage of his sister in 1332.
