Description
Petitioners
Katherine de Strathbogie, widow of David de Stathbogie, Earl of Atholl.
Name(s)
de Strathbogie, Katherine
Addressees
King
Nature of request
Strathbogie shows that she has lost her wardrobe and all that she has in the castle of Lochindorb, and further sums from her purse for the expenses keeping the castle until she was relieved. In addition she has been finding the maintenance of her son for 6 years and more, the king having granted 100 marks for his maintenance, which is in arrears. And with this the king granted to her several manors in Suffolk, Essex and Yorkshire, but following her grant the king granted them to diverse men, so that she can have no profit from them. She requests that the king order that she be able to recover the reasonable losses, costs and debts quickly as she has nothing to live on and to maintain her charge, and in part satisfaction that she be able to have the manors of Corsham and Kempton together with her assignment of £100. She also requests that he order to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer that she be discharged of the rents, and arrears from which she has had no profit.

Note
This is dated to 1348 by the details given in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.175; see also PROME, parliament of January-February 1348, appendix, no. 27. There are a number of related references in the patent rolls from 1340 and 1342 which presumably are the basis of the date of 1342 suggested on the guard. But there is also a modification of the dower and maintenance provision made at Katherine de Strathbogie's petition in October 1349 (CPR 1338-40, p.506; CPR 1340-43, p.412; CPR 1348-50, p.416). It would seem probable that this petition does date from 1348.
