Description
Petitioners
People of the town of Bodmin in Cornwall.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The people show that they were granted a charter by the king that they be able to freely purchase all manner of merchandise in Cornwall, which right they had until the ministers of the prince disturbed them, preventing them from buying tin on pain of forfeiture of the tin and imprisonment. They have sued bills to the king at Calais requesting remedy who ordered the prince and his council to do law and reason to them according to their charters. The prince ordered their charters, confirmations and petitions concerning their claim to be viewed and the law be ordained on this so that no one was disinherited of their rights. The people sued until they were answered, but were told to sue in another place, so that they request that the king ordain a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
It is the free will of the prince where tin is sold, and thus it was answered in full parliament.
