Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/12/600
Date
[1348]
Description
Petitioners
John Legat de Kimpton.
Name(s)
Legat, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Legat requests remedy in that Mauley with his great power and force and arms came to Legat's house and ousted him from it and his land and rents, threshing his corn, and taking others of his goods and services, and by his menaces he dare not go to the common law.
Nature of endorsement
Coram ipso rege.
Places mentioned
Kimpton, [Hertfordshire].
People mentioned
Robert de Morlee (Maulay).
Note
Presumed as dated to 1348 in PROME, parliament of January-February 1348, appendix, no. 14. Legat is named as an offender in 1346, and may be the same individual who is the subject of a commission of oyer and terminer where it appears that he is recorded as having been murdered in 1350. Though there is nothing definitive to tie this to 1348, a date around that time therefore seems appropriate.
