Nature of request
The people state that following their suit before the king's council a commission was issued to enquire of which vills were burnt and destroyed by the Scots, and pardon them of their biennial tax granted for 1346. The inquests being taken and returned into Chancery it was found that many vills were so burned, and the people request that the king grant his letters under the privy seal to the chancellor ordering him to make writs to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer discharging the collectors and the men of the vills which were returned into Chancery as being so burnt and destroyed.
