Description

King and council.
Nature of request
The burgesses show that they have complained at many parliaments that certain people were accustomed to hold diverse tenements in the town rendering rents to the burgesses in aid of their farm to the king, which tenements have now been destroyed by the sea and are of no value. Following an inquest and the issuing of a writ ordering those who were accustomed to hold those tenements to come and protect them from the sea or answer to the king why they have not done so. The time allocated for this has now passed and no one came so the burgesses request that the king order a remedy so that the remainder of the town is not destroyed by the sea by default of aid.
