Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/12/580
Date
[1337]
Description
Petitioners
John de Codyngton (Coddington), apprentice of the king's court and attorney.
Name(s)
de Codyngton (Coddington), John
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
apprentice of the king's court and attorney
Nature of request
Codyngton requests remedy because the admiral has ordered him to come suitably armed as a man at arms to Orewell on 17 March, threatening him that if he does not come he will be attached as a rebel and taken to the nearest prison and be deprived of his clients as an attorney to his destruction.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested before the council that he is an attorney, let it be ordered to John de Ros or his lieutenant that they should surcease from their demand that they have made against Codyngton and from the distress they have made to him by this cause.
Places mentioned
Orwell, [Suffolk].
People mentioned
John de Ros (Roos), admiral.
Note
The Ryley transcript in Rot. Parl. makes this part of a section of petitions in parliament for 11 Edw. III (1337). As Ros was admiral from 8 November 1336, and was no longer admiral by 18 February 1338, the attribution to the transcript to 1337 seems to be correct (Rot. Parl., vol II, p.96; CCR 1337-9, p.303).
