The people show that they hold certain lands of the king's demesne of his inheritance within his forest, and that they have never been tallaged, charged or taxed on it until the bailiffs of Chester distrained them for a tax made for the building of the bridge of Chester. The people request that the king order the justiciar of Chester that his heritage and demesne is not to be charged nor taxed in servitude without the king's order, and that they be allowed the delivery of their distraints which were wrongfully distrained against reason because at no time has such a thing been paid in the forest.
