Name(s)

Addressees

Nature of request
The petitioners show that Elizabeth de Exeter was dowered of certain tenements by the king's ministers in Ireland. The petitioners bought the estate with the consent of the king as it was held in chief of the king. It has since been seized into the king's hands for certain debts due to the king from Richard de Exeter from the time after the marriage of Richard and Elizabeth. The petitioners request a writ to the justiciar and his council in Ireland that they enquire of at what time the Exeters were married, and that they search their muniments and rolls in the Exchequer to find when the debt commenced. If they find that the debt commenced after the marriage they ought to have their lands discharged for their time with the issues taken in the meantime as the law demands.
