Reference
SC 8/12/561
Date
[1276]
Description
Petitioners
Joan de Hardrishille widow of John de Hardrishille.
Name(s)
de Hardrishille, Joan
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Hardrishille requests that the keeping of her husband's lands be delivered to her as her husband held nothing from the king in chief by knight's service, but only from the chapter of Lincoln and the king in socage.
Nature of endorsement
The inquisition should be viewed in Chancery because the king understood that he held from him by knight's service
Places mentioned
North Kelsey, Lincolnshire
South Kelsey, Lincolnshire.
People mentioned
John de Hardrishille, late husband of the petitioner
Chapter of Lincoln.
Note
The petition is dated to 1335 by the heading in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.90, noting these to be petitions in parliament for 9 Edward III, but this is clearly an error as this petition dates to 1276 when the petitioner was granted dower in North and South Kelsey (CCR 1272-9, p.310).
