Description
Petitioners
David de Strathbogie, Earl of Atholl.
Name(s)
de Strathbogie, Earl of Atholl, David
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The earl requests that he have remedy and that a gift made to him during the Ordinances, and made against the Ordinances, which the Ordinances have revoked, be rendered to him as he has been deprived of all his Scottish lands for the love of the king.
Nature of endorsement
This petition was read by order of the king in full parliament before the prelates, earls, barons and all others, and is answered by the assent and accord of all in the manner below written: The ancestors of the earl of Atholl through whom the inheritance is demanded forfeited all their rights before the king and suffered judgement by which the earl could not demand his inheritance. Nevertheless the king of his grace gave to him other lands of the value because he could not give him the lands that he claimed as his inheritance because he ought to have nothing from this which he claims in this manner.
Note
The petition is dated to early 1315 by the heading found in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.294 which places this in the parliament in the octave of St Hillary, 8 Edw. II.
