Description
Petitioners
Robert de Wodehous (Woodhouse), archdeacon of Richmond.
Name(s)
de Wodehous (Woodhouse), Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
archdeacon of Richmond
Nature of request
Wodehous requests that in regard of his long service to the king and his predecessors that he have restitution of the advowson of the church of St Sampson in the city of York which was taken into the king's hand following a claim made to the same advowson by the prior of Pontefract and suits made between them which Wodehous did not prosecute. Following an inquest concerning the alleged collusion between the prior and Wodehous, no collusion was found and the prior was found to have no claim, and Wodehous' rights were upheld.

It seems to the council that restitution of this advowson ought to be made to the archdeacon if it pleases the king.
Places mentioned

Prior of Pontefract.
Note
The petition seems safely to date to 1339, for a commission appointed on 7 July 1339 notes that it was made in response to a petition for the restitution of the advowson (CPR 1338-40, p.354-5).
