[1334]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Beausevall, proctor of the abbot of Bec-Hellouin.
Name(s)
de Beausevall, Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
proctor of the abbot of Bec-Hellouin
Nature of request
Beausevall requests that the king order his chancellor to send a writ to Selyman and Aston to stop their commission which was obtained by the villeins of the manor of Ogbourne concerning how the manor and church were granted to the abbey of Bec-Hellouin, and what services and alms were made. Because the grant was made such a long time ago, there is no one alive who can know anything of it, and he is prepared to show the charter and confirmation when and where it pleases the council.
Nature of endorsement
He does not have any cause at all, nor does the petition advance anything by which the king ought to stop this commission.
Places mentioned
Grant Okebourn (Ogbourne), [Wiltshire].
People mentioned
Maud de Walyngford (Wallingford)
Robert Selyman
Robert de Aston.
Note
The petition is dated to 1334 by the heading in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.73, making this part of 'petitions in parliament in 8 Edward III', though this is a Hale transcript.
