Reference
SC 8/11/527
Date
[? 1327]
Description
Petitioners
John le Bolt of Reading.
Name(s)
Bolt, John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Bolt shows that Ispania ousted him from certain lands to the damage of £20 which he was able to do by a charter of Edward II which gave him the lands once of Mountrynel and Preston which were forfeit to the crown, and which Ispania claimed that Bolt's lands were included in the grant. He requests remedy because the charter has prevented him ever since from getting an assize or an inquest held concerning his disturbance and the recognition of the king's court.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue at the common law.
Places mentioned
Reading, [Berkshire].
People mentioned
Giles de Espaigne (Ispania), serjeant of the mace of King Edward of Caenarfon
Edward II [King of England] William de Mountrynel
Robert de Prestone (Preston).
Note
The petition is dated to 1333 by the heading in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.70, though this is from a post-medieval transcript, so the exact date is unclear. The guard makes it somewhat earlier dating it to 1327, and this might well link in with the guard reference to SC 8/33/1613.
