Date
[1333]
Description
Petitioners
Geoffrey, abbot of Quarr.
Name(s)
Geoffrey
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
abbot of Quarr
Nature of request
The abbot shows that he had sued by a petition in parliament for the return of the manor of Whitefield of which they had been disseised, and which was now in the king's hand. In response to the petition an inquest was ordered and held which found nothing for the king. However the justices were unwilling to render judgement without an order of the king. The abbot requests that the king order by a writ to his justices of the Bench before whom the petition is pending, that they proceed to render judgement upon the verdict, and make final execution so that the church of Quarr is not disinherited.
Nature of endorsement
It is ordered by a writ of Chancery to Geoffrey le Scrope that he bring the record and process touching this business before the council of the king in Chancery and there view and examine the record and process. If it is found that the inquest was taken before the king by mise of party as the petition supposes, then it is to be ordered to the justices assigned to hold the pleas of the king that they should proceed to judgement and justice is fully to be done.
Places mentioned
Quarrere (Quarr), [Hampshire]
Isle of Wight, [Hampshire]
Whitfeld (Whitefield), [Isle of Wight, Hampshire].
People mentioned

Note
The petition is dated to 1333 by the heading in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.70, though this is from a post-medieval transcript, so the exact attribution is uncertain.
