Reference
SC 8/11/506
Date
[? 1328]
Description
Petitioners
People of Shoreston and North Sunderland.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The people request that the king pardon them their farm and the services that they owe at the castle of Bamburgh for the next year because they are so wasted by the Scottish war, that without his aid they will not be able to hold their lands.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested by the council that the people are waste, they should have respite of their farm for a year from the feast of Pentecost until the same feast in the following year, and there should be a writ on this to the constable of Bamburgh.
Places mentioned
Shoston (Shoreston), Northumberland
North Sunderland, Northumberland
Bamburgh, Northumberland.
People mentioned
[Robert de Horncliffe], Constable of Bamburgh.
Note
The petition is dated to 1328 by the heading in Rot. Parl., vol II, p.13 which records that this is from a Hale manuscript of petitions in parliament of 2 Edward III. PROME, Appendix of Unedited Petitions, 1307-1337, Rotuli Parliamentorum II, pp. 13-30, no. 34 confirms that these petitions 'nearly all appear to belong to 2 Edward III (1328-1329)'.
