Nature of request
The prior and convent of Tavistock state that by commission of the king's father they had custody of the stannary of Devon and the River Dart, to hold for the term of seven years, of which term they have had one full year and from Michaelmas last, paying annually £113 6s. 8d. - which is twenty marks more than the farm used to give - and that they have had great expenses and losses from extreme weather in summer and winter, losing half their farm and more; and that that custody is now granted to Thomas de Shirugge by a new commission. They request grace and a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
They are to show their commission in Chancery, and a writ containing the tenor of this petition is to be sent to the king's justices, who, when they have called those who are to be called, and when they have seen the commissions and heard the arguments, are to do justice.
