Nature of request
George de Meriet states that the manors of Merriott and Lopen in Somerset, within which fairs and markets are held, were seized into the hand of King Edward, grandfather of the present king, after the death of John de Meriet, George's grandfather, during the minority of John his son and heir; but that when the manors were delivered to him, the fairs and markets were withheld, and still are. George therefore requests grace and a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ in Chancery to inquire into how the fair and market came into the king's hand and why and how they are withheld, and into the other articles etc.

Dated c. or? 1328 on guard. The petition may be dated by a reference in CIPM, vol. VII no.179, indicating that it was probably presented in late 1327 or early 1328. George de Meriet died in November 1328 (CIPM, vol. VII no.150)
