Reference
SC 8/10/495
Date
[1305]
Description
Petitioners
Robert de Veer (Vere), earl of Oxford.
Name(s)
de Veer (Vere), earl of Oxford, Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Robert de Veer shows that the manor of Aythorpe Roding has always been held of the earl and his ancestors by the service of two knights' fees. It came into the hands of the late Queen Eleanor by purchase, and, beyond the terms of her seisin, she enfeoffed Guy Ferre with it, to hold of her and her heirs, and not of the chief lordships of the fee. Thus Robert de Veer and his heirs will lose wardships, reliefs, escheats and other profits, if the charter is not amended. He requests that this be done.
Nature of endorsement
The response made to this petition in another parliament is to be examined, and the earl is to pursue the same response with J. Bush, who has the petition he presented then.
Places mentioned
Rothing Aytrop (Aythorpe Roding), [Essex].
People mentioned
Eleanor [of Castile], Queen of England
Guy Ferre
J[John] Bush.
Note
CPR 1301-1307, p.393-394 is dated at Westminster, 5 November 1305. It seems reasonable to assume that it is a response to this petition.
