Nature of request
John de Paulesholt states that he had thirty-two acres of land in the Forest of Melksham, which is now deforested by the perambulation, and that William de Hareden, who had a commission to arrent the king's wastes in those parts, arrented it with the king's other lands, so that its farm was levied for the king's use, and now for the queen's, as the king has granted Devizes castle, within whose bailiwick it lies, to her. Therefore John can have no profit from his land, and requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ of Chancery to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer that, when they have called to the Exchequer William de Hareden, and the Queen's Steward and Bailiffs, and heard the complainant's petition there, they are to do justice to him there.

CPR 1301-1307, p. 156 is dated at Banff, 4 September 1303. The queen appears to have Devizes castle from 1304 at least(CPR 1301-1307, p. 258, dated 17 September 1304 is a grant for life by her to Henry Hert of custody of the park of Devizes).
